It’s a difficult task for anyone to create an individualized approach to scheduling pitchers across all levels of play - we are simplifying the process in this course. Injuries and poor performance are a result of not allowing the athlete to have time to regenerate, strengthen areas of the body that are weakened and not recovering well and not understanding how to fit all the important ingredients into the competitive pitching schedule for high school, college and professional pitchers.

This course indicates how to pair throwing program demands with drills, bullpen schedules, lifting themes, arm care testing schedules and arm care training requirements to ensure that the athlete is optimally loaded and recovered, while being data-led in making scheduling and program adjustment.

In 2017 and 2018, Jordan Oseguera, ArmCare.com’s Director of Pitching Performance and Dr. Ryan Crotin, Executive Vice President, experienced the worst injury endemic in the history of the Los Angeles Angels. In addition to bringing in individualized arm care programming through a collaborative organizational approach, pitching scheduling had to be evaluated to ensure that athletes had enough rest and appropriate training prescriptions to not push the athlete into undertraining zones or overuse. Collectively, an improved in-season management process, in addition to building up athletes during the season by allocating well-timed recovery, led to a significant improvement in pitcher health with reduced injured list days for the minor leagues by over 50% and for the MLB team in approach of 65% with no surgical injuries to the active roster for the 2019 and 2020 season.

Following the completion of the course, students will receive a handout indicating a step-by-step process in knowing how to monitor athletes, react to alerts and adapt in-season pitching schedules for game and bullpen management. Being dynamic allows coaches to protect athletes from injuries while increasing the opportunity to win games by managing throwing arm fatigue and poor performance.

Course Curriculum

The Data-Led Pitching Management Course is a companion course to our throwing programs course - Building Data-Driven Throwing Programs that lays out how the ArmCare.com platform is integrated to adjust intensity of training, frequency, density and volume of work.Data-led pitching management is essential and coaches need to be skilled in designing competitive schedules and important competitive processes that build on top of preparation, dynamic programming and monitoring involved in the offseason. This is where coaching and athletic performance shines in the in-season, and also a time where pitching management is critical to keeping your athletes healthy and dominating the competition all season long.

This course is just over a half hour and covers how to manage your bullpen using alerts to scale volume and shift appearances based data to ensure that you know when all systems are a go, or when you have to scale down or provide your athlete additional recovery time to build up arm strength.

The education in this course is invaluable for any athlete, coach, team or parent interested in understanding how to schedule activation, throwing programs, drills, bullpens, lifting, arm strength and range of motion testing and arm care training into the weekly schedule for relievers and across various rotations for starting pitchers.
